Easter Sunday in Stinson

March 23rd, 2008: Stinson Beach, CA
A rather lazy Easter Sunday in Stinson Beach at Carter's mom's house. Well... lazy for me that is. After getting up at 7:00 to do a run up the Steep Ravine Trail to Panoramic Rd. and then down the Matt Davis Trail, i got to hang out in the warm sunny patches next to the lagoon on the deck of the house. Carter, Karen, Anna and Megan, on the other hand, jumped into the water around 10 am to practice for the Wildflower Triathlon which is coming up in May. They swam roughly a mile, followed by a 22 mile ride up the Fairfax/Bolinas Rd and back down Panoramic and finished with a couple of miles on the beach. i think i will stick to the sunbathing.

All photos were taken by Anna who is an infinitely better photographer than i am....

Carter looking rather cheerful for someone who is about to swim a mile in cold lagoon water...

Megan
getting ready to jump in with the hills of Stinson in the background.

Despite being six months (!!!) pregnant, Karen still manages to get her wetsuit on and completes the swim right alongside (or ahead?) of the other three! Why does it not surprise me that she wants to have a water birth for Baby Duck?

Sitting around playing the guitar and feeling very content to be staying dry that morning.

Nature Based Tourism in Seattle?

March 8th & 9th: Seattle, WA
What started out as just an entertaining thought in Bend, OR turned into a super secret surprise trip to Seattle for the weekend of March to waylay Darcy on her way back to Alaska for spring break. The surprise worked fantastically as Darcy walked out of security in SeaTac looking for her bag to accidentally get bumped from behind by an unexpected friend. i only wish i had thought to get a picture of the look on her face. Needless to say... i was not the person she expect to find there!

As Darcy was not expecting to see me and thus had made plans to see other folks while in Seattle, i enjoyed tagging along for the weekend and hanging out with her friends both from Stanford and Elsewhere. Saturday started with a great run around Green Lake- i made it around the 2.8 mile loop three times in about 67 minutes- and continued with a beautiful walk in Discovery Park with Kim and Zach. On Sunday, we met up with Megan, a friend of Darcy's from Diamond High to explore Alki Beach and the Pikes Place Market. It was an incredible weekend and to get to see Darcy in person was so wonderful. Thank you so so much to Jenny for providing a welcoming place to stay and for being a wonderful accomplice.

A beautiful tree just begging to be climbed in Discovery Park. Where is Dustin when you need him?

Darcy and I met up with Kim and Zach for a beautiful day wandering around Discovery Park on Saturday. Although it was somewhat cloudy we got occasional glimpses of the mountains across the sound.

Darcy & i getting into trouble again...

Microcladia, i think? i am out of practice on the algae identification. Whatever it is... it is an amazing shade of red.

The sun finally came out as we reached the lighthouse at the point in Discovery Park. In a place where you expect it to be overcast, even a small amount of sun can turn it into the most beautiful day ever.

When have we ever been able to resist playing with silhouettes and shadows? Darcy, Kim and Zach doing a dance in honor of the sunshine.

Dinner at Graham & Kendall's house with Laure, Darcy and Jenny.

Exploring Pikes Place Market on Sunday afternoon with Darcy and Megan.

Darcy and i on a set of steps that have a name that i seem to have forgotten. i am not so sure about this whole Seattle place... someone said there would be eagles, but....
